There are 11 islands, of which only 4 are inhabited: Skopelos, Skiathos, Alonissos, Skiros.  Yachts are based in Skiathos but you can reach Sporades Islands from the town of Volos, built in Pagassitikos Gulf, near the site of ancient Iolkou at the foothills of Pelion. It is also one of the biggest cities and one of the major ports of Greece.
